Bio

Lena Imeraj holds a PhD in Social Sciences. Currently, she is the postdoctoral research coordinator of the Brussels Centre for Urban Studies (BCUS), an interdisciplinary research centre at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) that brings together urban researchers from various disciplines. Lena also is a research fellow at Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Research [Geography Department – VUB] and Interface Demography [Sociology Department – VUB], a collaborative partner of the Hannah Arendt Institute and a member of the Brussels Interdisciplinary Research centre on Migration and Minorities (BIRMM). Her research is distinctive in questioning dominant understandings of residential segregation, bringing ethnicity into (internal) migration studies, unravelling the diverse intersections between demographic and social/socio-economic dynamics, characteristics and inequalities. She is/was is involved in several (inter)national and interdisciplinary projects related to urban geographies and populations, such as ResSegr (JPI Urban Europe), Cities and Newcomers (VUB Interdisciplinary Research Programme), Bruxodus (INNOVIRIS), BRUTUS (VUB-Foundation) and AirBRU (INNOVIRIS).
