Bio

Hadewijch Vandenheede studied social work and sociology. She finished her PhD in Sociology in 2011 and then worked as postdoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and University College London (UCL). From October 2013 onwards she is appointed Assistant Professor at the VUB. The focus of her research is ethnic, gender and socioeconomic inequalities in health and mortality, and the intersection between these. The topic of her PhD was ethnic inequalities in diabetes morbidity and mortality, with special emphasis on the interactions with gender and socioeconomic position. More recently she has been involved in projects examining social inequalities in health and mortality in a metropolitan context (Brussels), health and mortality in Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union, and cancer inequalities. Hadewijch Vandenheede took up teaching statistics for social sciences since the beginning of her academic career, and will continue to do so at undergraduate as well as graduate level.
