Bio
Jelena Dobbels (°1988) obtained a Master in History at the University of Antwerp in 2010. Her MA dissertation ‘Towards a heritage policy. The demolition of the Antwerp Burcht as a case study for the changing attitude towards heritage (1863-1900)’ explored nineteenth-century approaches to and ideas on heritage. This research prompted a further specialization in the field of heritage and monument conservation (Master Conservation of Monuments and Sites, Artesis Hogeschool Antwerp, 2011). As of 2011, she is affiliated with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (department Art History and Archaeology). Her research focuses on the local actors within the nineteenth- and twentieth-century heritage field in Belgium. She combines this research with a post at the department of Research & Development, where she studies methodologies to measure the impact of culture and creativity on the Brussels-Capital Region.
